Boss is collecting at Burwash, just south of Cochrane, AB.
Every breeder has their own set of criteria when choosing a stallion for their mare. Sometimes colour and size are at the top of the list. Other times, temperament or performance are the most important.
Each mare has her own specifics and the stallion selected should offset any of her weaker points. If you mare has poorer quality hooves, find a stud with hard, solid hooves to create better offspring. It doesn't always work the way you hoped, but you can at least try to improve you herd and the breed with each mating.
Below are some of the things that I consider when making that choice. I've provided comments on how Boss meets these criteria - but it's just my own opinion. If you are interested in meeting him in person, just give us a call. We welcome inquiries and visits.
Breeding considerations:
Earning history - has been provided above for Boss, along with show details below. Boss is extremely consistent in his performance. He doesn't often post scores above 73 but he rarely posts below 69 either. The fence work is his favourite and generally his best scores at a show come from this portion of the contest. For a Canadian stallion, mainly showing in Western Canada, he had a stellar Derby year and continues to accumulate earnings.

Conformation - Boss is a compact, short-backed stallion. He has a unique blaze on a dark chestnut coat with a little roaning at the flanks.
Temperament - A few minor stud behaviours at home but quiet at shows, Boss is always ready to work and focused on the job at hand.
Personality - Boss loves a little scratch or even comment as you pass by his stall door. He knows he's special!
Athleticism - Boss continues to impress us with his ability to train, show and collect without running out of energy or desire.
Owner - Bar TT Cowhorse will make every reasonable effort to get Boss collected and delivered on time for your mare. We collect at Burwash and encourage mare owners to coordinate with them.
Did his earnings decline from 2024 to 2025?
Massimo Garlanda has been the consistent pilot for all of Boss' wins. In 2024, the pair performed so well, that they had to move up from Level 1 Limited Open all the way to the top level, (bypassing the Intermediate Open), which is the unrestricted Open class in all shows in Canada. That puts them head to head with John Swales, Canada's top Reined Cow Horse rider. The competition is tough at the top, but we couldn't be happier about coming second to John Swales. Even at this level, Massimo and BOSS are showing strongly and we have big hopes for the future.
