Purdy Bossy was a young futurity hopeful, when we brought him home to the ranch.  He had been training with Dale Clearwater of Just About A Ranch and already showing potential.

This 5 year old stallion is by CD Lights and out of Purdy Metallica, (Metallic Cat x Purdy Bet)He was raised by Dr. Dan Watkins, DVM. of Texas and remains a favourite of Watkins' colts.  We had decided to call him "Boss" at the barn before discovering that his sire had that same barn name.

With a little more perspective, we now think his barn name, BOSS, really suits him.  He's a little cocky at times and certainly watches the mares go by his stall door.  But he's a total gentleman under saddle.  I think he just loves his job - he's ready to work hard, every day.

Boss has been shown consistently from his first futurity show on and is solid and strong.  He has had very few days of soreness through his career with us.  We'll knock on wood, but he is just a tough cow horse stallion!

Boss' sire:

CD Lights became a million dollar sire in 2017, earning $234,000 in five seasons of NCHA competition.

He was a finalist at the NCHA Futurity Open in 2002 and in the NCHA Derby Open in 2003.

In 2006 he was awarded NCHA World Champion Stallion, the 2006 World Finals Open Champion and NCHA Open Reserve Champion, after which he was retired.

He has numerous successful offspring in both NCHA and NRCHA whose earnings exceed $5,7 million.

Boss' dam:

Purdy Metallica suffered a broken shoulder from a kick at pasture as a weanling.  She was taken in by Dr. Watkins and nursed back to health but she was never sound to ride. This mare was able to breed and carry to term.

She has produced 3 foals to date, with Purdy Bossy being the first of them.

Purdy Metallica is by the NRCHA's first ever $5 million dollar sire, Metallic Cat.  His top offspring include Call Me Mitch, Metallic Train, Cats Picasso, Ricato Suave, Hazardouz Material and MoonshineAndTwoAdvil, all of which have earned over $100,000 in the NRCHA.

Purdy Metallica is out of Purdy Bet, finalist in the Breeders Inv. Open Classic; 7th in the Idaho Open Classic; recipient of the AQHA Open ROM.

Interested in a "BOSS baby"?

We will be standing Boss at Burwash Equine Veterinarians early in 2026.  We will try to get our breeding accomplished early so that he can get back on the competition circuit.

Burwash Equine Veterinarians have provided us with excellent service in the past, on the mare side of breeding.  We anticipate another great experience on the stud side of the business.

Purdy Bossy  had another solid year in 2025.  He has become the most reliable Derby horse on the circuit.  He can be counted on for a 72 in every event and a placing in the winner circle.

Boss has been competing in the Open Derby this year, as Massimo Garlanda, his rider was bumped out of the Level One and Limited Open rider categories, after a spectacular year in 2024.  Still, Massimo and Boss have placed at every show they enter and when they get the right cow, you can't beat them!

Boss is gritty on the fence especially and just loves to stop those cows.  His circling is beautiful, tight and so controlled.  He's not a big horse physically but he dominates the cow pen!

Purdy Bossy posted earnings of over $1,700 in 2025 NRCHA qualifying events and placed as the Number 1 Open Derby horse in the Canadian Region, again!  He made 48th place in the world Open Hackamore NRCHA out of 249 entries.
