No lazy summer time here!

Those hazy, lazy days of summer seem to have missed us this year. We've had a few spectacular days but overall, it's been quite wet and cool. Our arena has held up very well to all the rain and we've still been able to ride most days outside.
We started into the Futurity & Derby show season in mid August with the Classic Cow Horse Futurity & Derby in Saskatoon. It's a bit of a drive (almost 7 hours), but always a well organized event. This year, we had some cooler weather - which we greatly appreciated. Horse shows are always tiring for us and the horses but that Saskatchewan heat & humidity can make it seem like a very long show.
There was a great turn out with the usual Alberta travelling trainers - Tyler Albrecht, Clint Swales, Sarah Wolfs, Carlene Schmidt, Ron Anderson. The Saskatchewan natives were out in force - Rick Wiebe, Dale Clearwater & Seth Abrahamson. There were new faces - for me, at least, in both the Open and Non Pro classes. We enjoyed reconnecting with many familiar faces through the weekend.
After a long drive home, we all needed a good rest. Then we got back to work - in the arena as well as sorting and moving cattle to new pastures. Many local farmers cut hay on Sunday around Bergen, with a forecast of ten sunny days ahead, but we had rain twice today. Fortunately, not much moisture fell and hopefully the hay will be baled and in the barn before any more arrives.
